SHAM 69 have split from Jimmy Pursey. The band had become increasingly fed up with Jimmys lack of interest in playing live and continually letting down both promoters and fans by pulling out of gigs at the last moment.
Original guitarist and co-songwriter Dave Parsons and Ian Whitewood, drummer with Sham for the last 20 years are continuing as Sham 69. They have just recruted a new bass player and will shortly be auditioning singers. Dave said: “It’s good to finally have a bit of control over our own destiny - being in Sham had become like working in a dictatorship.”

He was operated twice in the mean time, as he was suffering from severe face cuttings and broken bones. He was looking better than a couple of days before. The docs did a good job. He´s a strong guy and will recover for sure - but it takes time.

The new documentary film about JOE STRUMMER “The Future Is Unwritten”, directed by Julien Temple (the Sex Pistols “The Filth And The Fury”) was be premiering at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah with the first screenings beginning last weekend.
From The Sundance Film Festival Website: “Through previously unearthed interviews with Strummer himself and recollections of those who knew him best, Temple reveals a complex man who used his music as a bullhorn for his conscience–as well as a means to educate others about the injustices of the world. The film includes live concert footage spanning Strummer’s career and tapes of his BBC radio program, all of which provide a fitting soundtrack to his distinctive and storied existence.”
A DVD release is planned for later that year.
