After a three-year delay, JOHN PEEL's gravestone has been finally erected. The memorial to the legendary Radio 1 DJ, who was buried at St Andrew's Church in the village of Great Finborough, has two inscriptions, the Liver Bird, emblem of Liverpool FC, who he was a supporter of, and the opening line of the Undertones song 'Teenage Kicks', ‘Teenage dreams, so hard to beat'.
Sheila Ravenscroft, Peel’s wife, said: "We have put the words on the stone that he would've wanted. I wouldn't dare do anything else!"
Also, commenting on the delay: "I suppose that it was my fault really. I couldn’t face it to start with."

THE SEX PISTOLS appear on the brink of earning their own “blue plaque”, commemorating the late Sid Vicious’s former residency in Hampstead. The flat at 39 New Court, Lutton Terrace, was squatted by Vicious and Johnny Rotten in 1975 after the former was turfed out by his mother, Ann Beverley. “I said, it’s either you or me,” she told subsequent punkographers, “and it’s not going to be me, so you can just f***off.” Thanks, mum!
The Pistols already boast an unofficial plaque, unveiled by Glen Matlock at Central St. Martins art college in 2005, but this would be the first endorsed by English Heritage. If it goes ahead, Vicious would be one of a small elite of musicians so honoured in London, joining, Mozart, Hendrix and Handel (two doors down from Hendrix in Brook St., Westminster) among others. The Pistols’ transformation from society bogeymen to comfy residents in the pantheon of British cultural history appears nearly complete.

Revived The Jam band FROM THE JAM have hinted at the release of a live DVD and a possible album of new material this year.
The group, which consists of original The Jam members Bruce Foxton (bass) and Rick Buckler (drums) with guitarists David Moore and Russell Hastings in place of original modfather Paul Weller, will release a live DVD of a London show filmed in December last year this April.
The group then plan to start rehearsing song ideas in the spring after they’ve finished early 2008 touring commitments.
Speaking to Billboard.com Foxton said: “There will be new material, [but] it probably won’t see the light of day until the end of this year.”
He added: “We’ve got a few good ideas kicking around. We’ll see what we come up with. We don’t want to rush it. There’s no pressure from a record label or anybody. It’s a great position to be in.”
Foxton said the group weren’t sure who would be writing lyrics yet, as Weller was on original lyric-penning duties, but he did say the rhythm section sounded similar.
Foxton concluded: “It’s experimental. When we go into the studio, that’s when we’ll really see what we’ve got.”

Here is the RANCID Recording/Update: “In late 2007 we all spent a few weeks together writing in Utah at Unknown Studios. The chemistry has been incredible and this record has come together very organically. All of the songs were written with us all 4 together in the same room. We hung out at Brandens house and when it wasn't snowing we would play soccer, skate the ramp, and work on our UK Photobook. Sometimes we'd just sit back and watch a Johnny Cash or Social Distortion dvd. We enjoyed having an environment where we could just relax and write with no pressure or distractions. Some days the snow would come down so much that it created a real feeling of solitude, bringing us together. Each night when we'd go out to eat at the local restaurants it was interesting to have us all together out in such a conservative community. It was like Rancid dining with the Osmonds, that was pretty much how it felt.
In early Jan 2008 we started recording the 7th Rancid record with producer Brett Gurewitz (who has produced 4 previous Rancid records). It's coming along great and we're deep into it at this point still currently tracking. With an expected release in June 2008, we are working hard and very proud of what we've done so far. We will post more info, videos and photos from our writing and recording sessions soon!”
