MANIC STREET PREACHERS have said that their next album will be a happier affair than its predecessor 'Journal For Plague Lovers'.
Frontman James Dean Bradfield has hinted that the group's recent reelase, which featured lyrics by departed guitarist Richey Edwards, was "intense" and that the band wanted to lighten the mood for their next album due to the emotional strain they went through making it.
"I think we're going to try and create an experience that brings a bit more joy," he told Bang Media International of the band's next album, which they have not started writing yet.
Elaborating on the decision to change mood, he added: "I think we've always reacted against ourselves. When we made [1998 album] 'This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours' it was our biggest-selling record in the world and then we made a clattery experimental punk album in [2001's] 'Know Your Enemy'."
THE SLITS are gearing up to release their first new full-length album in more than 25 years.

X frontwoman Exene Cervenka has revealed that she has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
The singer, who has a child with actor Viggo Mortensen, said in a statement that she will not let the diagnosis interfere with her current US tour or the forthcoming release of her solo album.
"After some months of not feeling 100% healthy, I recently had some medical tests run and the prognosis is that I am suffering from multiple sclerosis. Apparently, it has been affecting me for quite some time," Cervenka said.
"Although this is obviously unfortunate news, I am choosing to see the positive in it. I, and X as a band, have supported the Sweet Relief charity since the mid-1990s; the irony of this is not lost on any of us. Sweet Relief was started as an aid to uninsured artists by musician Victoria Williams when she herself was diagnosed with MS in 1992.
"While this diagnosis will most certainly mean some changes for me personally, it will not affect my commitments to the current X US tour, nor will it affect my solo album that is slated for release this fall on Bloodshot Records.
"My focus will certainly be on maintaining my health - many people remain strong and continue to live their lives as productively as they had before an MS diagnosis and I plan to be one of those people."
Multiple sclerosis is an auto-immune condition in which the immune system attacks the central nervous system.

Fat Wreck Chords plans to reduce the price of all their CDs to under $10 throughout the United States. Label bossman and NOFX singer Fat Mike explained:
“This is not a sale. This is how much this CD costs, and not only that, but EVERY CD on Fat Wreck Chords will now be under $10 and most will be under $8. No, we are not crazy. We just think that having a very low CD price is a fair way for scene supporting music fans to support their favorite independent bands and labels. Sound crazy? I think it sounds reasonable. We make less profit, but bands hopefully will sell more CDs to more people, which is why we started doing this in the first place.”
