SANDY WEST, drummer for the one and only THE RUNAWAYS has died Saturday, October 21, 2006 after a long battle with lung cancer. She was 47.
After the final breakup of the band in early 1979, Ms. West continued to perform as a drummer, guitarist and vocalist with THE SANDY WEST BAND. As a solo artist she recorded a highly collectible EP CD and numerous videos, and continued to enjoy the adoration of a dedicated cult following.
Runaways vocalist and life-long friend, Cherie Currie had this to say, "Sandy West was by far, the greatest female drummer in the history of rock and roll. No one could compete or even come close to her, but the most important was her heart. Sandy West loved her fans, her friends and family almost to a fault. She would do absolutely anything for the people she loved. It will never be the same for me again to step on a stage, because Sandy West was the best and I will miss her forever."

“People Like You Records” is sorry to hear that U.S. BOMBS had to cancel their European tour. Duane told us the chaotic situation on their Brazilian tour. Great shows, crazy kids but also cancelled shows and robberies - an adventure movie is a fuckin joke. Here is the official statement by Duane:
"We regretfully had to cancel this tour because after having spent a solid month in Brazil The U.S.BOMBS are Completely Taxed! We all had to get jobs to pay that tour back for all the cancelled shows due to Robberies and what nots. We Had a great time in Brazil but it costed us money to play there and no band had been down there for a month and now we know why, we have a habit of breaking into new territories the wrong way everytime.anyhow we would have to bring a child on the Road in the winter over there and we just think it will be smarter to bring The BOMBS and The HORSE over there sometime in the spring! We really hate to cancel anything and this was really hard for us to do but we think it will be smarter in the end to wait a few months! We are truly sorry and promise to make up for it! Thank You for Understanding."

NO MORE HEROES (by Alex Ogg)
Paperback: 700 pages - Publisher: Cherry Red Records (5 Oct 2006)
1976, music changed forever with the arrival of a self-empowering alternative to the bloated, sterile rock music of the day. From Cardiff to Caithness, from Portrush to Plymouth, bands promoted their own gigs, designed their own artwork and organised their own pressing and distribution. This exhaustive book, based on over 200 interviews with the participants, chronicles not only the good and the great, the icons of the punk movement, but also celebrates some of the fantastic lost bands and music of the era, as well as the cash-ins and artistic failures. There are detailed accounts, often at variance with conventional wisdom, about the career paths of the Pistols, the Clash, the Damned, the Buzzcocks, the Stranglers and Siouxsie & The Banshees. But "No More Heroes" also recounts the also-rans, the nearly men and women and those who simply made their statement to the world and then left the stage. Bands like the Desperate Bicycles, the Fruit Eating Bears and Helpless Hew. Stories that take in drug addiction, the Eurovision Song Contest, organised crime, contemptuous audiences, shows that were so poorly attended the musicians were arrested on suspicion of breaking and entering, jealous bingo callers, hippy-baiting, nervous breakdowns and publishing deals written on the back of beer mats. It is an exhaustive A-Z overview of the phenomenon, including extensive biographical notes, complete discographies, and a buyer's guide to help sort the wheat from the chaff among the thousands of CD reissues that have emerged in the last decade. Many of the accompanying photographs have never been published before. The year 2006 is the 30th anniversary of Punk Music exploding in the UK and this is the most detailed definite book on the subject to date. Alex Ogg is a London-based author. He is the former editor of "Spiral Scratch" magazine and has written dozens of liner notes for punk bands including the Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, Undertones, Penetration, Adverts, Skids, Ruts, Sham 69 and many others.

PRETTY VACANT – A History Of Punk (from Phil Strongman + Alan Parker)
Hardcover: 384 pages – Publisher: Orion (30 Nov. 2006)
From the precursors of punk, through the famous Bill Grundy show when punk first hit the nation's consciousness to the modern-day heirs, such as Green Day and Busted, punk has evolved and taken over so many aspects of life that even banks now use punk lettering to appeal to their markets. In this brilliant account of punk, the authors have interviewed all the major figures to build up a complete portrait of a remarkable era of change in music and youth culture. Their story features Richard Branson, Malcolm McLaren, Vivienne Westwood, Tony Parsons and many more who took their early steps to fame and fortune around this time. Band members of The Clash, Stranglers, Sex Pistols and many others recall what happened, bringing their story to life with vivid anecdotes and telling detail. It is a book that no true fan of music can afford to be without, for this is the ultimate inside account of punk, told by those who really were there from the beginning.
About the Author´s:
Phil Strongman was at the 100 Club in 1976 when the Sex Pistols first performed there, was an extra in The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle, and has known many of punk's greatest figures for many years. He is a journalist and author.
Alan Parker joined his first punk band in 1979, and lived for three months with Sid Vicious's mother. The punk co-ordinator for EMI and Sony UK, he knows virtually every major punk figure in the UK, and many in the USA, and is the author of several books on punk.

Allan Jones from “Uncut”-Magazine”: There’s a lot to celebrate here. To be precise, in one edition, there’s every Clash UK single and its B-side, available on vinyl on separate discs in facsimiles of their original sleeves. The CD box set, on sale simultaneously, has all the singles plus additional bonus tracks – US and Argentinean promos, Canadian, Dutch and Spanish B-sides – again presented individually in replica sleeves.
