Frank Kerr, better known to fans as Frankie Venom, the lead singer of veteran Hamilton, Ontario punk band TEENAGE HEAD, has passed away. Kerr died of cancer on October 15th, he was 51. Guitarist Gord Lewis made the announcement earlier today through the band's label Sonic Unyon. Kerr helped form the band in 1975 when its members were still in high school, making them one of the earliest punk bands in Canada and winning them the title of "Canada's Ramones." The group released their self-titled debut in 1979, breaking through with the album Frantic City in 1980.
Teenage Head most recently teamed up with Ramones drummer Marky Ramone to record an album of the band's classics. It was released this past April. Earlier today it was announced that the band would be the recipients of a lifetime achievement award at next month's Hamilton Music Awards.

KATE WINSLET is to play designer VIVIENNE WESTWOOD in an upcoming biopic.
The Titanic actress has been cast as the fashion icon for the Universal film about her life from the Seventies to the present.
Quirky Vivienne who has been credited with rewriting the rules of taste, will meet Kate to talk about the movie when the script is finished.
A source said: “Vivienne is a British icon and it was about time a film was made about her. Fashionistas all over the world adore her.
“Not only is she an amazing designer, she’s also an incredible character. She has managed to lead a real rock ’n’ roll lifestyle without destroying her talent.
“The script will be easy to write because her life is packed full of stories.
“Kate Winslet is an excellent choice to play Vivienne. She’ll be fantastic.”
The self-taught designer — who made her name by bringing punk fashions to the mainstream — used to own the Sex fashion boutique on London’s Kings Road in the Seventies along with her second husband and SEX PISTOLS manager MALCOLM McLAREN.
She now runs one of the most successful fashion houses in the world with a chain of exclusive shops including those in London, Manchester and Liverpool.
A Vivienne Westwood spokesman confirmed: “The script is going well and Kate will play Vivienne. It has been a long time in planning but we’re very excited that it’s happening.”

New York troubadour JESSE MALIN is to release a new live album "Mercury Retrograde - Live in New York City", recorded acoustically across two nights last December.
Having previously only sold an official live bootleg recorded in Liverpool and sold at his own shows in May 2004 (Messed Up Tonight), this is the first time Malin has put out a proper live album.
Out on December 15 via One Little Indian, the UK edition will also feature five unreleased studio tracks from the Glitter in The Gutter album sessions.
Speaking about Mercury Retrograde, the punk-poet has said: "Leaving the house and going out to see live shows is a ritual for me - a physical experience that I can't get at home just listening to a studio album. For my first ever-live album, I wanted to record the songs differently by going back to the original essence of how they were written, on an acoustic guitar. Over the past couple years I've been touring with a full band, but for this album, I wanted to go back to the way it was in the beginning and just do a stripped down acoustic set.”
